Intro to Drupal 7: Intro to Views, Pt. 1

Submitted by Lin on

Use views to create lists of content in Drupal 7. This screencast demonstrates creating a view that has multiple displays, using the whole node or just fields in the list, customizing the way fields are displayed, and changing the HTML formatting of the list using the user interface.

Video #6 in this Intro to Drupal series.

Great video (and Series)

This series of Videos is not only great, but an amazing collection of what's currently possible in Drupal 7 already (despite being in alpha). I know Views is already working on Drupal 7, but seeing it in action like this is really awesome. Kudos for doing this series on D7.

drush

Thank you for that great video.
Never tried drush before but it looks pretty handy. :)

Views not really ready

I have had very mixed results with views on Drupal 7 and encountered a few bugs. For example the groups drop down in the fields and filters section doesn't actually filter down the categories. And some ajax stuff breaks.

This is obviously expected since there is no stable version yet of the views module. Since this is a very complicated module I would expect a more stable version slightly after drupal 7 has been officially released.

But still a great video though.

Super good

This explanation is REALLY great for someone who is start from zero like myself and with version 7.
Huge thanks for posting this.

Thanks so much for investing your time in this

I've been battling with both views and panels - and found the wealth of documentation a little daunting!

But your quick demo has saved me at least a few hours worth of reading and lots of trial and error - I'm ready now to give it another shot!

Thanks so much for sharing :-)

Please raise the volume

I really like this introduction. But please turn up the volume. At first I wondered why a screencast with no sound.

Views is a very important module and I wonder how I could live without it for so long. Bummer that the version for Drupal 7 isn't stable yet. And I'm additionally confused because I actually read somewhere that panels and views were supposed to be a core functionality of Drupal 7. Strange.

Thank you so much for your

Thank you so much for your videos.  They have been so helpful.  I really appreciate it.  I think Views is exactly what I've been looking for for what I 'm trying to do on my Drupal 7 site.

My Views Differ From Yours

I' m using Drupal7 and views 7.x-3.0-rc1 and my Admin/structure/views/add  page looks completely different to yours.  For example, It offers content types in a dropdown and only as follows: All, Article,Basic page, Panel.
